Poster Contest

27 08 2008

I participated in the Pandora contest last year, and used my Can Music Save Your Mortal Soul image. It got a great response and was in the top ten for a while. Well, it’s that time of year again, and this time I made an image specifically for this contest. It took me a little longer than expected, but I still have nine days left in the contest and so I figured I’d enter it anyway. Click here to vote for my poster.

The butterfly inspired the piece. I was looking through photos from the summer when I went hiking with my friend Amber. We spotted a yellow butterfly that seemed to follow us around and posed for quite a few pictures! Once I got the angle of the guitar neck right, then it just fell into place.

This poster is 11×17 and drawn entirely in colored pencil. I used turpentine early in the work to even out the color and give it a more solid look.

Illustration Friday – Sail

14 08 2008

I have been addicted to the Olympics since 8/8/08. I have been watching it religiously almost every night. Staying up late, and not getting enough sleep. All because I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to see who’s going to win the gold. I saw the topic for this week and put it off. I can’t think of anything. Then it occurred to me – who sails better than anyone in the world? Michael Phelps. He is now the best Olympian. Ever. He has more gold medals than anyone in history, and he has the potential to win the most gold medals in one Olympic Game.

He sails through the water like no one else. He does it for America. He does it for himself. He swims like a fish, but he sails like an eagle.

This was done with colored pencil on colored paper.

1 08 2008

The subject of Illustration Friday last week was canned. I started this drawing and then poof! It was Friday again, and another IF topic took over…

This was created in Illustrator.
