Painted Moleskine Sketchbooks

15 10 2008

Here is an example of a moleskine sketchbook I have painted for a client:

I used their logo and painted “MCDD” with a red square on a standard sized Moleskine squared notebook. The notebook itself has grid paper inside, as the client is an architect. This was done for M. Carlton Design and Development. You can visit their website here: www.mcarlton.com

You may be asking me: What is a Moleskine notebook? Well, to answer that question, I have included an excerpt directly from their website: www.moleskines.com

What is Moleskine? ( mol-a-skeen’-a)
MOLESKINE is the legendary notebook that has held the inspirations and ideas of everyone from Van Gogh, Picasso and Hemingway to famed author, Bruce Chatwin. Artists, authors, and geniuses of all variety have long appreciated the simplicity and superior functionality of these notebooks.

Originally these books were produced by small French bookbinders who supplied the Parisian stationery shops frequented by the international avant-garde. However, In 1986, the last manufacturer of Moleskine, a family operation in Tours, closed and Moleskines were gone – but not forgotten. As a result of their previous popularity and demand, they did return. In 1998, a small Milanese publisher brought these books back for writers, artists, travelers and all free-thinkers around the globe.

Moleskine notebooks are very popular. They are durable and small enough to carry with you. They come with all different interiors: grids, blank, ruled, watercolor paper, memo pockets, music ruled, story board boxes, accordion folded and more! They even have notebooks that contain a map (of most major cities) and important landmarks in that city with notebook pages to sketch or write!

I can paint any logo or image on the front of your very own Moleskin notebook! Contact me to find out more information. Prices vary depending upon complexity.

Custom Xmas Cards

6 10 2008

I love making cards. I make cards for every occasion: birthday, anniversary, xmas, get well, thank you. I make notecards as well. Last year I made a Christmas card for a client that looked like this:

She sent this card out to all her friends at Christmas time. Consequently, one of her friends really liked the card but wanted a German Shepherd on the card instead. So this year, I did this card for the new client:

I did a whole new painting for the new card, and they get to keep the original! I can reprint more cards at any time. I can also put YOUR pet on this Christmas card! I can create cards from a portrait of your children or your pets. You get to keep the portrait and hang it on your wall and then you can send out the cards to friends and family! To see more cards that I have created click here.

Relay for Life was a success!

6 10 2008

The Relay for Life I participated in this past Friday was a success! I raised $230 and I raffled off a print of my work to someone who donated to my fund. The lucky winner has chosen the Frog Prince print:

The walk started at 5pm on Friday night, and we walked throughout the night until 8 in the morning. We took a few breaks throughout the night, but just like the last walk we did; as long as we kept walking it was fine, once you stop is when your feet start to hurt and your legs tense up. So we just kept on walking! There was one other thing I did not anticipate, and that was the weather. It didn’t rain at all (thank goodness!) but it was FREEZING! We were walking around with our blankets on us, and went inside to warm up. Next time we do this, it will definitely be in the warmer months… I would also like to get more people next time. I think it would be a lot more fun with 10 people. It was tough with 3 people walking the entire time. I raised $230 and our team raised $746 collectively. Congratulations to all who walked with us in the Relay for Life! All the teams raised over $33,000!!! Thank you to the American Cancer Society for hosting the Relay for Life. I look forward to doing it again next year!

Illustration Friday – Packed

3 10 2008

This is a pachyderm named Patrick. He packed his trunk and went on a plane.

I did this sketch with a Micron pen in my sketchbook, scanned it in and colored it in photoshop. It’s not my usual technique.  I wanted a more detailed background but ran out of time… So maybe I will revisit this in the future and do it right. Even though I was packed full of work this week, I found the time to create this drawing. Good thing it’s Friday, now.

Relay for Life – 2 days left!

2 10 2008

Only two days left to donate to my Relay for Life event! It’s happening at the University of Hartford on Friday October 3. If you’d like to donate, please go here.

I am holding a raffle. For every $10 you donate your name will be put into the raffle. The raffle will be held on October 3rd around noon, EST. Make sure to get your donations in by then, to be included in the raffle!

Artsake – updated!

1 10 2008

The Artsake Gallery website has now been updated! I made the text smaller. I updated the events listing under the Events tab. I also added a little more info to the homepage about the upcoming “No Rules” artshow.

Click here to go to the website and see all the improvements!

I also added new text to the About Us tab. I hope to get some photos of the gallery, and of Jenn’s work to post here. I think it would add a little flair!

Artsake Gallery framed 99% of the art that was hanging in my show. (The other 1% was framed by me when I worked at a different frame shop that shall remain nameless) I got just as many compliments on the framing as I did on my artwork. Jenn is a wonderful framer with a great eye. She knows exactly what frame will compliment each piece. Her frameshop is located in Tolland, Connecticut, on the corner of Rte 74 and Rte 30.
