Three Pets — One Portrait

12 11 2008

This portrait consists of three pets! A Golden Retriever puppy, a cat, and a German Shepherd. The client wanted a portrait for his wife for Christmas, but he wanted to include all the pets! I created an initial sketch and manipulated it in photoshop until I got the right composition. The client then approved the sketch and the final drawing was started. This piece is 16″ x 20″ drawn with pastels on sage green paper. The pastels really give the animals a great sense of softness. Since it may be hard to see in the final piece, I posted a detail of the German Shepherd, so you can get a better sense of what it really looks like.

Come see my art!

12 11 2008

I am participating in the Artists Open Studios of Northeastern Connecticut! My artwork along with three other artists will be featured at Artsake Gallery in Tolland, CT. The open studios are a great opportunity to see the art that is happening right in your backyard! Over 80 artists of every discipline are opening their doors and bringing you inside to see the inner workings of an artists studio, just in time for the holidays!

I am showing my artwork, paintings and drawings of illustrations, portraits and animals. Jennifer Hopkins owns Artsake Gallery and she will be showing some paintings as well as her glass beads, necklaces and bookmarks. She will be doing glass bead demonstrations on Sundays. Barbara Cambria is also exhibiting with us. She creates hand-quilted pieces to decorate the home: lap quilts, table runners and wall hangings for adults and children. Jennifer Milavsky is showing the first weekend only. She creates wire wrapped, semi-precious gemstone and handmade glass bead jewelry. This is my first year participating in the artists open studios, but I have seen them in action in the past. It’s so much fun to see all the different artists in the area that you never knew were there! There are so many talented people in the area. Make a day of it and come on by! Stop at Artsake for a map of the area with all the studios, or download it online:

Stop by and see what I’ve been working on! I hope to see you all there!
